Cafe Museum Chair by Adolf Loos for Wiener GTV Design.
The master of modern design, Adolf Loos created the Cafe Museum chair in 1898 for the famous Cafe Museum in Vienna. His design evolved those of the original Thonet chairs, taking aspects of the N.14, N.30 and N.248.
The light and elegant bent wood chair embodies Loo’s architectural and interior beliefs. We can see his philosophies through various features. It is a quality mass-produced chair, a standardised type for modern living. Equally its simple and clean form evokes his text ‘Ornament and Crime’, which declared his anger and disapproval of ornamentation.
The chair’s fluid wooden back has a practical dip, perfect for pulling the classic chair out for a guest.
